Belgian sprinter Jasper Philipsen abandoned the Tour de France after a heavy crash during the third stage from Valenciennes to Dunkerque on 7 July. The incident occurred near the intermediate sprint in Isbergues, about 60 kilometres from the finish, when French rider Bryan Coquard lost balance and clipped Philipsen’s front wheel, sending the green-jersey holder to the ground. Race medical staff confirmed the 26-year-old suffered a fractured clavicle and at least one broken rib. Philipsen, who won the opening stage in Lille and briefly wore the yellow jersey, was considered a favourite for the points classification. His exit deprives Alpecin-Deceuninck of its leading sprinter and reshapes the battle for the green jersey. Philipsen is the third rider to quit the 2025 edition after Filippo Ganna and Stefan Bissegger withdrew on the opening day. The remainder of the largely flat stage continued without major incident, with Mathieu van der Poel retaining the overall lead.
