Jasper Philipsen, the Belgian cyclist and current green jersey holder for the best sprinter, was forced to abandon the 2025 Tour de France following a severe crash during the third stage between Valenciennes and Dunkerque. The incident occurred at an intermediate sprint when French rider Bryan Coquard lost balance and collided with Philipsen, causing him to fall heavily on his right shoulder. Philipsen, who had won the first stage and was a prominent contender, was visibly injured and unable to continue the race. Later in the Tour, Remco Evenepoel, the white jersey holder from Soudal-QuickStep, also withdrew during the 14th stage between Paul and Luchon-Superbagnères after falling behind the peloton on the climb of the Tourmalet. These withdrawals mark notable absences among the leading riders in the 2025 edition of the race.
