French industry recorded its strongest monthly performance in five years, with total industrial production climbing 3.8 % in June, national statistics office INSEE said on Tuesday. The rebound far exceeded the 0.6 % rise predicted by economists and followed a 0.7 % decline in May. Manufacturing output advanced 3.5 %, led by a 16.6 % surge in transport equipment as aerospace and other capital-goods makers cleared order backlogs after supply-chain bottlenecks eased. Energy and utilities output increased 5.0 %, while electronics and electrical equipment rose 4.2 %. Despite the sharp monthly jump, overall industrial output was 0.4 % lower in the second quarter than a year earlier, and manufacturing was 0.2 % higher. The data suggest the sector is benefitting from improved component availability, but broader year-on-year gains remain modest as external demand and domestic investment stay uneven.
