🇫🇷 La #France insoumise lancera une procédure de destitution d'Emmanuel Macron le 23 septembre, annonce Jean-Luc Mélenchon - France Info https://t.co/kDFyBhgxPb
Jean-Luc Mélenchon said his left-wing alliance La France insoumise will file a new motion to impeach President Emmanuel Macron on 23 September, reviving an effort that was rejected by parliament last year. Speaking on France Inter on 26 August, the LFI founder called the head of state “the cause” of France’s political and economic crisis and argued that removing him would prevent the appointment of another prime minister continuing the same policies. The announcement comes as Prime Minister François Bayrou prepares to seek a vote of confidence in the National Assembly on 8 September after unveiling outlines of the 2026 budget. Mélenchon suggested that, regardless of the confidence vote’s outcome, a destitution procedure under Article 68 of the constitution is necessary and urged unions to maintain plans for a nationwide strike on 10 September. Under French law, impeachment requires support from one-tenth of lawmakers to convene parliament as a High Court and a two-thirds majority to remove a president—thresholds Macron’s opponents have so far been unable to meet. The renewed push reflects growing tensions within the fragmented legislature as the government faces mounting pressure over economic policy and public discontent.
