On the evening of June 25, 2025, a violent thunderstorm struck Paris and its surrounding region, causing widespread damage and disruption. The storm featured intense rainfall, with approximately 20 mm falling in a few minutes, strong winds reaching up to 130 km/h, and hail. The storm caused flooding of streets and several Paris metro stations, uprooted around 50 trees, and led to the temporary closure of metro stations. Approximately 12,000 households in the Puy-de-Dôme area lost electricity due to the storm. The severe weather also caused the roof of the French parliament to leak while the prime minister was speaking, forcing a temporary interruption of the National Assembly session. The storm resulted in at least two fatalities and 17 injuries across France. In the aftermath, images showed significant damage including flooded roads and fallen trees, particularly in areas like Beaugrenelle in Paris. Following this event, a heatwave affected France, leading to infrastructure issues such as underground electrical network failures that left 6,000 to 8,000 Enedis customers without power in early July. Meteorological forecasts indicated ongoing thunderstorms in various departments, with temperatures gradually decreasing in some regions but persisting in the southeast. On July 2, violent storms continued to impact areas including the Var and Yonne departments, causing further damage after the heatwave.
