Greek state-owned gas trader DEPA Commercial has reached an out-of-court agreement with Russia’s Gazprom Export, ending a long-running dispute over contract pricing for 2022-24 supplies. The compromise was announced 8 July, just weeks before an international arbitration panel was due to rule on the case. Under the deal, Gazprom drops take-or-pay penalty claims estimated at roughly €400 million, while DEPA secures retroactive price discounts and a formula that keeps pipeline gas costs at what the company described as ‘competitive’ levels for 2025-26. Detailed terms were not disclosed. DEPA had petitioned the arbitration court in March 2024 after spot liquefied natural gas became cheaper than the price indexed in its 2022 contract—80 percent linked to Dutch TTF and 20 percent to oil. The settlement removes legal uncertainty and preserves supplies delivered via the TurkStream route at a time when most EU members are reducing reliance on Russian energy.
