Justin Timberlake said he has been diagnosed with Lyme disease, calling the tick-borne infection “relentlessly debilitating” in an Instagram post on 31 July. The 44-year-old singer and actor disclosed the condition one day after wrapping his two-year Forget Tomorrow World Tour, explaining that the illness left him with nerve pain, extreme fatigue and bouts of sickness while performing. Timberlake wrote that doctors confirmed the diagnosis earlier in the tour, forcing him to weigh cancelling shows. He opted to continue, citing the “joy that performing brings,” and completed the trek despite periodic postponements. Billboard data show the tour grossed about $73 million from 41 reported concerts through May, ranking him among the year’s top live acts. Lyme disease is caused by Borrelia bacteria transmitted through infected tick bites. If untreated, it can lead to joint inflammation, heart rhythm problems and neurological complications. Timberlake said he chose to go public to raise awareness and encourage others facing the disease to seek support.
