The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) has warned that nearly 10 million people in Afghanistan will require urgent food assistance during the summer months. However, due to a critical funding shortfall, the WFP can only provide food aid to about one million people. Concurrently, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization reported that drought has severely damaged agricultural production and rural livelihoods in Afghanistan. Additionally, a large number of Afghan migrants have been expelled from Iran recently, many of whom are financially unable to return to their original homes and are awaiting emergency aid. The World Health Organization (WHO) has also called for urgent support to address unprecedented health needs of women and children migrants returning from Iran and Pakistan at Afghanistan's borders. Iranian authorities have indicated that Afghan migrants who lost their assets during expulsion can recover them through legal representation. Overall, the situation highlights a compounded humanitarian crisis involving food insecurity, drought impact, forced migration, and urgent health needs along Afghanistan's borders.
