The Ottawa Senators traded their 21st overall selection to the Nashville Predators, sliding two spots to No. 23 and adding a third-round pick at No. 67, then used the first-round choice to select University of Wisconsin defenceman Logan Hensler at the 2025 NHL Draft in Los Angeles. Hensler, an 18-year-old, 6-foot-2 right-shot blue-liner, produced two goals and 32 points with Wisconsin last season and helped the United States win World Junior gold in Ottawa earlier this year. Club scouts described right-handed defencemen as a premium asset and said Hensler’s skating and puck-moving ability project him as a potential top-four contributor. Ottawa added five more prospects on Day 2. The team traded with Washington to take right-winger Blake Vanek—son of former NHL forward Thomas Vanek—at No. 93, followed by goaltender Lucas Beckman at No. 97, Russian winger Dmitri Isayev at No. 149, Croatian left-winger Bruno Idzan at No. 181 and Russian forward Andrei Trofimov at No. 213.
Capitals were surprised that Gästrin dropped to 37. Mahoney they were ecstatic because they thought he’d go in the first round. Didn’t know he was a Caps fan. “That’s good, we like those.”
With the 213th overall pick the #Sens selected Andrei Trofimov from Stalnye Lisy Magnitogorsk.
#Sens have chosen LW Bruno Idzan Lincoln USHL. He's from Croatia at No. 181
