The Seattle Mariners used the No. 3 overall selection in the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft to take Louisiana State University left-hander Kade Anderson. The 21-year-old sophomore becomes the highest-drafted LSU pitcher since Paul Skenes went first in 2023. Anderson led NCAA Division I this season with 180 strikeouts while posting a 12-1 record and a 3.18 ERA over 119 innings. He earned College World Series Most Valuable Player honors as LSU captured the national championship. Listed at 6-foot-2 and 186 pounds, the Madisonville, Louisiana, native was eligible for the draft as a sophomore because he turned 21 on July 6. The Washington Nationals opened the draft by selecting Oklahoma high-school shortstop Eli Willits, and the Los Angeles Angels followed with UC-Santa Barbara right-hander Tyler Bremner. Colorado took high-school shortstop Ethan Holliday fourth, and St. Louis chose Tennessee left-hander Liam Doyle fifth.
