A physical altercation erupted inside the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly complex on 17 July between Bharatiya Janata Party legislator Gopichand Padalkar and supporters of Nationalist Congress Party-Sharad Chandra Pawar faction leader Jitendra Awhad, according to Assembly security staff who released video of the incident. Opposition leaders swiftly condemned the clash, with Congress state chief Nana Patole calling it "unacceptable" and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray warning that the sanctity of the Vidhan Bhavan was at stake if such violence was allowed. Awhad said MLAs’ safety was in question and demanded accountability, while party colleague Sachin Ahir added that the fracas showed even the Assembly gates were no longer secure. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described the confrontation as "unacceptable" and said the matter falls under the jurisdiction of the Assembly and Council Speakers, who have been asked to investigate. No injuries or arrests had been officially reported as of late Thursday, but leaders across party lines urged stronger security measures to prevent a repeat of the incident.
