The Bharatiya Janata Party on 1 July named veteran lawyer and former Telangana Legislative Council member N. Ramchander Rao as president of its Telangana state unit, replacing Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy. The announcement was made at the party headquarters in Hyderabad and followed an uncontested nomination process. Rao, long associated with the BJP and its student wing since the 1970s, said he was "honoured" by the leadership’s confidence and pledged to strengthen the organisation ahead of municipal and assembly polls. Senior national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and party president J. P. Nadda, were thanked in his first public remarks after the appointment. Party strategists view Rao’s elevation as a move to stabilise the state unit and broaden its base in Hyderabad, where the BJP hopes to improve its showing in upcoming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections. His legal background and reputation as a consensus builder were cited by officials as key factors in the decision.
