India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation on Monday showcased a new truck-mounted heavy artillery platform, the Mounted Gun System, at the Vehicles Research and Development Establishment in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. Built on the Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) 155mm/52-calibre design, the weapon is integrated on a cross-country, protected vehicle chassis to give crews enhanced mobility and survivability. According to VRDE Director G. Ramamohana Rao, the MGS retains the fire-power of existing towed guns while eliminating the need for separate prime movers. The system offers a stated range of 45 kilometres and is designed for rapid “shoot-and-scoot” operations, enabling artillery units to reposition quickly after firing. The project involved multiple Indian industry partners, defence public-sector undertakings and academic institutions under DRDO’s leadership. The Army’s adoption of the indigenously developed system would mark another step toward the government’s drive for self-reliance in defence production.
Watch: India has developed an indigenous Mounted Gun System (MGS), a cross-country, truck-mounted heavy artillery system based on the ATAGS 155mm/52 caliber platform. The MGS boasts a range of 45 km, offering the highest fire range in its class. With excellent shoot-and-scoot https://t.co/crhmCc3sDK
