Heavy rainfall in northern India has caused widespread flooding, landslides, and waterlogging, severely impacting rescue and relief operations. In the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand, sudden flooding and landslides since August 5 have resulted in at least four deaths and dozens of people missing. Rescue efforts have been hampered by blocked roads and persistent heavy rain, with the Indian Army and National Disaster Response Force intensifying search operations in affected areas such as Dharali and Harsil in Uttarkashi district. Helicopters have been deployed to evacuate stranded individuals, and a bridge connecting Uttarkashi to Harsil has been reconstructed to facilitate relief work. Authorities report that over 1,000 people, including devotees and pilgrims stranded at Gangotri Dham, have been rescued. The state government, led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, has coordinated relief efforts, restored electricity and mobile networks, and provided food, clothing, and financial aid of Rs 5 lakh to families whose homes were damaged. Meanwhile, the national capital Delhi and surrounding regions in the National Capital Region (NCR) have experienced severe waterlogging due to torrential rains, leading to traffic congestion and disruptions. Areas affected include ITO, Moti Bagh, Punjabi Bagh, Munirka, Ranjeet Nagar, and Noida Sector 62, among others. In Delhi, seven people died following a wall collapse in Harinagar, Jaitpur. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the capital as heavy rains continue. Other parts of northern India, including Uttar Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, have also reported heavy rainfall and waterlogging, with rivers such as the Garh Ganga and Yamuna flowing above danger marks.
