Heavy rainfall in Uttar Pradesh has caused the water levels of the Ganga River to rise significantly, leading to flooding in key cities including Prayagraj and Varanasi. In Prayagraj, the river's water has entered the Bade Hanuman Mandir and inundated several low-lying areas such as Chhota Baghada and Nag Vasuki, disrupting daily life for residents. In Varanasi, the Ganga has reached near warning levels at 68.94 meters, submerging major ghats including Namo Ghat and Assi Ghat, as well as several temples. Boating services have been suspended, and local authorities have advised residents and tourists to avoid the ghats due to safety concerns. The flooding has also led to changes in the location of the traditional Ganga Aarti ceremony. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conducted an aerial survey of the river's water levels at the Varanasi ghats in response to the situation. The ongoing monsoon season continues to contribute to the river's swelling across the region.
