India continues its efforts to eliminate tuberculosis (TB) through the #TBMuktBharat campaign, emphasizing early detection, timely treatment, and community support. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has urged individuals with symptoms such as prolonged cough, weight loss, night sweats, and fever to get tested promptly and adhere strictly to treatment protocols. TB is an airborne disease that can affect not only the lungs but also the kidneys, spine, brain, and skin. Preventive measures include wearing masks, maintaining a balanced diet, regular exercise, and staying hydrated. The campaign also highlights the role of nutrition in boosting immunity for faster recovery. Various states and organizations are actively raising awareness, including nursing students in Puducherry who are educating the public and encouraging TB patients to wear masks. The government’s 100-day Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan aims to support TB patients and spread awareness nationwide. Actor Rajkummar Rao and actress Manushi Chhillar have supported the campaign by promoting awareness and the importance of early intervention. Gujarat has reported a 34% decline in new TB cases and a 37% reduction in mortality since 2015, leading the country in TB control progress. The campaign also focuses on reducing stigma and discrimination against TB patients, promoting respect and support for those affected. The MoHFW provides a toll-free helpline (1800-11-6666) for information and assistance related to TB.
