A Mumbai Monorail train (RST-4) stalled between Bhakti Park and Chembur, near Mysore Colony station, on August 19, 2025, due to a power supply issue caused by severe overcrowding. The total weight of the train rose to approximately 109 metric tonnes, exceeding its designed capacity. Over 580 passengers were onboard at the time, with reports indicating that up to 800 passengers may have been stranded. Rescue operations were conducted by teams from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai Fire Brigade, and Mumbai Police. Passengers experienced difficulties including suffocation and breathing problems, particularly among senior citizens and children. Twenty-three passengers received onsite treatment from an onboard doctor and ambulance staff, while two were hospitalized at Sion Hospital. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde attributed the overcrowding to the closure of the Harbour Line, which led many commuters to use the Monorail. He assured that an investigation would be conducted to prevent similar incidents. Monorail services resumed after the rescue operation was completed.
