A transformer explosion believed to have been triggered by torrential rain caused a short circuit at San Antonio Abad station on Mexico City’s Metro Line 2 late Sunday, forcing the Sistema de Transporte Colectivo to shut three stations and split operations on the line. From approximately 22:00 local time, trains ran only between Cuatro Caminos and Pino Suárez on the northern stretch and between Tasqueña and Xola on the southern end, leaving San Antonio Abad, Chabacano and Viaducto out of service while technical crews repaired electrical systems. The Metro said its incident-investigation unit will conduct a technical review of the failure. Service across the entire Line 2 was fully restored shortly after 03:00 on Monday, the operator added.
