India marked its second National Space Day on August 23, 2025, commemorating the successful soft landing of the Chandrayaan-3 mission near the Moon's south pole on August 23, 2023. The event featured key figures including Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, pilot of the Axiom-4 Space Mission to the International Space Station (ISS), who met President Droupadi Murmu and inaugurated the Aryabhatta Gallery at the Nehru Planetarium. ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan highlighted India's achievements in space exploration, including the Chandrayaan-3 landing, the upcoming Chandrayaan-4 mission, a Venus Orbiter Mission, and plans for the Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS) space station by 2035. He also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his vision and initiatives, such as sending Indian astronauts ('Gaganyatris') to space and encouraging private sector participation in space technology. Prime Minister Modi addressed the National Space Day celebrations and the Economic Times World Leaders Forum 2025, emphasizing India's rapid progress in space technology and broader economic growth. He noted that India has become the fourth country capable of docking and undocking in space and is advancing in technologies like semi-cryogenic engines and electric propulsion. Modi called on private sector space startups to help India achieve 50 rocket launches annually within five years and to create five unicorn companies in the space sector. He also mentioned India's efforts to develop indigenous 6G technology and semiconductor manufacturing, with the first Made in India chip expected by the end of 2025. Modi highlighted that over 60 space missions have been completed in the past 11 years, with many more planned. He reiterated ongoing reforms in governance, including GST improvements and India's expanding electric vehicle exports to 100 countries. The Prime Minister praised the role of Indian youth and scientists in driving the country's space ambitions, citing recent international achievements such as hosting the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics with participation from over 60 countries. Union ministers and state leaders also participated in the celebrations, underscoring the growing importance of space technology in India's national development and global standing.
