Hindu preacher Dhirendra Krishna Shastri, head of the Bageshwar Dham temple in Madhya Pradesh, addressed tens of thousands of devotees at the Sanatan Mahakumbh held in Gandhi Maidan, Patna, on Sunday. Flanked by several prominent seers, including Jagadguru Ramabhadracharya, Shastri declared that his “only dream is Bhagwa-e-Hind,” saying India would one day be formally declared a Hindu nation and that Bihar would be the first state to embrace the change. Shastri insisted his visit was part of “Ramneeti, not Rajneeti,” urging followers to rise above caste divisions while warning that any attack on his religion would be met with retaliation. The remarks drew immediate political attention, with Bharatiya Janata Party spokesman Alok Ajay defending the clergy’s rhetoric by asking why calls for a Hindu-flagged India should be objectionable when “the sound of Sharia” is accepted in politics.
