An ageing government school building in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district collapsed on Friday morning, killing at least four children and injuring 17, according to local police and multiple media reports. About 25–30 pupils were assembled for morning prayers when the roof gave way, leaving dozens feared trapped under the debris. Rescue crews supported by local residents used cranes to clear rubble and had pulled 32 students to safety by mid-day, authorities said. Several of the injured are reported to be in critical condition. State Education Minister Madan Dilawar told broadcasters the structure was old and may have been weakened by recent heavy rains. Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma said on social media that hospitals had been instructed to provide all necessary treatment and that an investigation into the cause of the collapse is under way.
