A pit latrine at Queen of Angels Academy in Turbo, Uasin Gishu County, collapsed on Thursday morning, killing three pre-primary pupils—two girls in PP1 and one in PP2—according to Sub-County Police Commander Patrick Wekesa. The children were pulled from the debris and taken to Turbo Sub-County Hospital, where they were pronounced dead before their bodies were transferred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret. Rescue workers continued searching for a possible fourth pupil feared trapped. The Catholic Diocese of Eldoret, which runs the school, described the incident as “unfortunate” and pledged to cooperate with investigators. The National Youth Service deployed a team to assist in recovery efforts, while county education officials began interviewing staff and inspecting the site to determine whether structural weaknesses or negligence contributed to the collapse. Governor Jonathan Bii said the county has asked the Ministry of Education to conduct immediate structural assessments of sanitation facilities in all schools, citing the need to prevent similar tragedies. Nelson Kirui, executive secretary of the Kenya National Union of Teachers for Eldoret West, called for a nationwide review of school infrastructure standards and accountability measures.
