A four-storey residential building collapsed around 7:45 a.m. on Saturday in Janta Mazdoor Colony on Idgah Road, part of the Welcome neighbourhood in northeast Delhi’s Seelampur area. Residents said the structure came down with a loud crash, sending up a cloud of dust and trapping several occupants under the debris. Delhi Fire Services dispatched seven fire tenders, while police, civil defence volunteers and other emergency teams cordoned off the narrow lane and began searching for survivors. Additional DCP (North-East) Sandeep Lamba said at least three people had been pulled out alive but the total number still inside the rubble was “being estimated.” Rescuers were using hydraulic cutters and sniffer dogs to clear mangled concrete and metal, and a National Disaster Response Force unit was called in to reinforce the operation. Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the collapse or any fatalities. Local hospitals have been put on alert as efforts continue through the morning.
