Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Trade Minister Gan Kim Yong and Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow toured key logistics and technology sites in Mumbai on 12 August, including PSA’s Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority and a CapitalLand data centre in Thane. Officials said the delegation will announce more than US$4 billion in investments across four projects in Maharashtra later in the day. The Mumbai stop precedes the third India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable in New Delhi on 13 August, where finance, foreign, trade and technology ministers from both countries are expected to sign several memorandums of understanding covering trade, digital services and infrastructure. Singapore is already India’s largest foreign-direct investor, accounting for roughly 24 percent of cumulative equity inflows since 2000. The flurry of activity comes as the two nations mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam visited India in January, and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong is expected to travel to the country in early September, affirming deepening economic and strategic ties.
