Indonesia has undertaken its largest military restructuring in decades under President Prabowo Subianto, a former general. The overhaul includes the creation of more than 20 regional military commands, with the Indonesian Army now comprising 21 Komando Daerah Militer (Kodam) spread across 38 provinces. Recently, President Prabowo inaugurated six new regional army commands in Bandung Barat, West Java, as part of efforts to strengthen national defense. Additionally, 14 Komando Daerah Angkatan Laut (Kodaeral) were established during a military ceremony at the Pusdiklatpassus TNI AD in Batujajar. The restructuring coincides with a marked increase in Indonesia's defense spending. The post of deputy armed forces commander was also reinstated for the first time in over 20 years, reflecting a broader effort to enhance military operational capacity and honor. President Prabowo emphasized the importance of a strong military to safeguard Indonesia's independence, referencing the nation's history of colonization.
