President Prabowo Subianto officially launched 80,081 units of the Koperasi Desa Merah Putih (Red and White Village Cooperatives) on July 21, 2025, as part of a national initiative to strengthen rural economies in Indonesia. Each cooperative is set to receive loans ranging from Rp 3 billion to Rp 5 billion from state-owned banks under the Himpunan Bank Negara (Himbara). The program aims to create millions of jobs and address longstanding economic challenges in rural areas by expanding financial services and fostering community-based economic growth. Prabowo emphasized that these cooperatives are designed for grassroots communities, particularly the lower-middle class, and are founded on principles of kinship and mutual cooperation. He also highlighted the importance of strict and transparent oversight for the cooperatives. During the launch event, Prabowo made remarks comparing the political relationship between PDI-P and Gerindra parties to that of siblings, which was clarified by PDI-P leaders as not an indication of coalition formation. Local officials, such as the Regent of Bandung, advocated for cooperative leadership to avoid nepotism by excluding relatives or campaign teams of village heads from chair positions. The government continues to focus on job creation programs, with the Koperasi Desa Merah Putih initiative being a central component.
