At the summit, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the host, warmly received Prabowo and highlighted the BRICS group's role as a continuation of the Bandung Spirit from the 1955 Asia-Africa Conference, emphasizing opposition to global domination by major powers. Lula also called for reforms, including the creation of a new BRICS trade currency to challenge austerity policies affecting poorer nations and criticized the International Monetary Fund and World Bank for perpetuating financial inequalities through what he described as a 'reverse Marshall Plan.' President Prabowo echoed calls against war and double standards, advocating for the Bandung Spirit's principles within the BRICS forum.
