President Prabowo Arrives in Rio for 17th BRICS Summit, Discusses Juliana Marins Incident, Sets 8% Economic Growth Target

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the 17th BRICS Summit held from July 6 to 7, 2025. Upon arrival at Air Base Galeao, he was welcomed with a military honor ceremony and greeted by high-ranking Brazilian officials. During the summit, Prabowo is expected to discuss the incident involving the death of Juliana Marins with the Brazilian President. Additionally, Prabowo has tasked Indonesian ambassador candidates, including Berlian Helmy for Azerbaijan, with objectives such as achieving an 8% annual economic growth. The President also intends to position Indonesia as a proactive contributor to resolving international issues. Reports highlight Indonesia’s growing role in global geopolitics and economic development, underscored by Finance Minister Nirmala’s participation at the summit. Furthermore, Raden Dato Mohammad Iman Hascarya Kusumo, the prospective Indonesian ambassador to Malaysia, has expressed a close relationship with President Prabowo.
