President Prabowo Subianto granted amnesty to 1,178 prisoners on August 1, 2025, including notable figures such as Hasto Kristiyanto, Secretary General of PDI-P, and Yulianus Paonganan, also known as Ongen, convicted for violating Indonesia's Electronic Information and Transactions Law due to insulting former President Joko Widodo. Hasto Kristiyanto was previously sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for involvement in a bribery case related to Harun Masiku but was released following the presidential amnesty. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) acknowledged the presidential prerogative in granting amnesty but emphasized the seriousness of the crimes committed. In addition, six prisoners convicted of non-armed rebellion in Papua were also included in the amnesty. The amnesty has sparked political discourse, with Gerindra and PDI-P denying any quid pro quo related to government support. Meanwhile, the Indonesian police's Food Task Force has uncovered a case of adulterated rice being sold under premium brand labels, leading to three suspects being named, including the president director of PT PIM. Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, has ordered the immediate withdrawal of all rice products produced by PT Food Station Tjipinang Jaya from the market. On the anti-corruption front, the KPK summoned former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas and former Minister of Education and Culture Nadiem Makarim for investigations related to alleged corruption in hajj quota management and the Google Cloud procurement case, respectively. Two legislators have also been named suspects in a corruption case involving the central bank and the financial services regulator. Additionally, KPK arrested Abdul Azis, Regent of East Kolaka, after a National Working Meeting of the NasDem Party. President Prabowo also delivered a speech praising former President Joko Widodo and his cabinet during a plenary cabinet meeting and gave a closed speech at the Bandung Institute of Technology to focus on science, technology, and industry without political interference. In foreign affairs, Prabowo emphasized seeking a good resolution in the Ambalat maritime dispute with Malaysia.
