The amnesty and abolishment decisions, unprecedented in corruption cases, were justified by Prabowo as efforts to promote national unity amid global geopolitical tensions. Megawati expressed deep emotion upon Hasto's arrival, pausing her speech to highlight that truth ultimately prevails. She also criticized the current state of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and urged President Prabowo to intervene. The PDI-P leadership structure was announced with Megawati holding multiple roles, including the Chairperson and acting Secretary General, as the latter position remained vacant. The party declared it would neither join the government coalition nor act as opposition but instead serve as a balancing force supporting pro-people policies while maintaining critical oversight. Additionally, President Prabowo issued amnesty to 1,178 prisoners on August 1, 2025, including six individuals convicted of non-violent rebellion in Papua and Yulianus Paonganan, convicted for insulting President Joko Widodo under the Information and Electronic Transactions Law. Both Gerindra and PDI-P denied any transactional motives behind the amnesty granted to Hasto Kristiyanto. The KPK acknowledged the amnesty as the president's prerogative but maintained Hasto's criminal status based on his conviction. The congress proceedings were held behind closed doors to prevent internal disruption, and Megawati emphasized loyalty and dedication from party cadres, warning against mere rhetoric and urging them to avoid embarrassing the party, particularly referencing past electoral losses in Central Java.
