Three Die in Crowd Crush at Wedding of Maula Akbar and Putri Karlina; 26 Injured, Rp 150 Million Compensation Offered

A tragic incident occurred during the wedding reception of Maula Akbar, son of West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi, and Putri Karlina, Deputy Regent of Garut, on July 18, 2025, in Garut. The event, which was a public feast offering free food to attendees, resulted in a fatal crowd crush that caused the deaths of three individuals, including an eight-year-old girl named Vania Aprilia. The West Java Police have released the identities of the victims and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. Following the incident, Governor Dedi Mulyadi stated that he had prohibited his son and daughter-in-law from organizing a free public meal but the event proceeded nonetheless. Both Maula Akbar and Putri Karlina have apologized for the incident. Dedi Mulyadi personally visited the victims' families to offer condolences and has provided compensation amounting to 150 million rupiahs. Authorities have reported 26 injured individuals from the event, and investigations into potential negligence are ongoing. The Governor has expressed willingness to cooperate with the police inquiry, and both he and his family members are prepared to be questioned regarding the incident.
