Google said its forthcoming Chrome 138 release will be the final version of the browser to run on macOS 11 Big Sur. Beginning with Chrome 139—scheduled for general rollout at the end of July and tentatively set for 5 Aug. 2025—new installations will require macOS 12 Monterey or later. Chrome 138 will continue to operate on Big Sur machines but will display a warning banner and stop receiving security patches or feature updates. Google urged users stuck on the 2020-era operating system to upgrade macOS or move to another browser to maintain protection against online threats. Once support ends, Mozilla’s Firefox and Microsoft’s Edge will be the only major browsers still updating on macOS Big Sur; Apple’s Safari dropped the version in July 2023. The change affects owners of several 2013-15 Mac models unable to update beyond Big Sur, further narrowing software options for older hardware.
Does anyone have an invite for @PerplexityComet Comet Browser they could share with me? I would really appreciate it.
Perplexity’s Comet looks to challenge Google’s dominance in web browsing at a time when the tech giant could be made to sell its Chrome browser in an antitrust remedies case. https://t.co/UX8fS4ReiM
