Australia has expelled Iran’s ambassador and suspended operations at its embassy in Tehran after intelligence concluded that Tehran orchestrated antisemitic attacks on Australian soil, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said at a press conference in Canberra on Tuesday. The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation found that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps directed the firebombing of Lewis’ Continental Kitchen, a kosher café in Sydney, on 20 October 2024 and the arson attack on the Adass Israel Synagogue in Melbourne on 6 December 2024. Although no injuries were reported, Albanese called the incidents “extraordinary and dangerous acts of aggression” intended to sow discord, adding that further plots may also have been ordered. Ambassador Ahmad Sadeghi and three other Iranian diplomats have seven days to leave—Australia’s first envoy expulsion since World War II. All Australian diplomats have been relocated to a third country, and Canberra will introduce legislation to designate the IRGC as a terrorist organisation. Foreign Minister Penny Wong warned Australians against travelling to Iran, noting that consular support is now severely limited.

It’s now confirmed: the Islamic Republic of Iran carried out two antisemitic terror attacks in Australia. Remember—just two weeks ago, thousands marched in Australia with images of the Ayatollah. These rallies aren’t organic; they’re orchestrated by Islamist regimes. https://t.co/zSi7Xk5bWZ
