Iran’s Intelligence Ministry said security forces killed six militants during an operation in Sistan-Baluchistan, the restive southeastern province that borders Pakistan and Afghanistan. Two additional suspects were captured and a cache of weapons was seized, state news agency IRNA reported. The ministry claimed the cell had ties to Israel and may have received training from the Mossad intelligence service, citing unspecified documents recovered after the clash. All but one of the fighters were described as foreign nationals; their nationalities were not disclosed. The raid followed an attack a day earlier in the same province that left five police officers dead and was claimed by the Sunni militant group Jaish al-Adl. Sistan-Baluchistan has long been the scene of insurgency, smuggling and sectarian violence, with Tehran frequently accusing foreign adversaries of backing local armed organisations.
