An Israeli–Palestinian history lecture by Israeli scholar Ilan Pappé in Limerick, Ireland, was briefly interrupted on 6 July when Irish activist Jamie O’Mahony attempted to wave an Israeli flag at the front of the auditorium. The event, centred on Palestinian liberation and attended by several survivors of the conflict, paused as stewards and audience members removed O’Mahony from the hall. Mobile-phone footage posted later in the day shows Pappé remaining at the lectern while a physical altercation erupted between O’Mahony and attendees before security escorted him out. The programme resumed within minutes, and no serious injuries were reported. The disruption highlights rising tensions around public discussions of the Israel-Hamas war and Palestinian rights in Europe, where university venues have increasingly faced protests from both pro-Palestinian and pro-Israel groups.
