A pro-Palestinian demonstrator breached security on the final straight of the Tour de France’s 11th stage in Toulouse on Wednesday, sprinting toward the finish line while wearing a t-shirt reading “Israel out of the Tour” and waving a keffiyeh. Stéphane Boury, the race’s head of stage finishes, tackled the man roughly 25 metres from the line as Norway’s Jonas Abrahamsen edged Switzerland’s Mauro Schmid for the stage victory. The intruder was immediately handed to police and taken into custody. Extinction Rebellion Toulouse later said it organised the action to protest the presence of the Israel-Premier Tech team and the war in Gaza, urging organisers to bar the squad from the race. Israel-Premier Tech said it respects free speech but condemned protests that endanger riders, adding that it is operating under security protocols set by race organiser ASO and French police. The team has travelled with additional protection since first entering the Tour in 2020. Organisers declined to comment on the incident.
