On July 15, 2025, the Syrian Defense Ministry deployed Shaheen UAV drone units to strike Druze forces in As-Suwayda city and southern Syria, targeting militia vehicles and fighters affiliated with the Suwayda Military Council. Following these attacks, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) prepared for several days of combat in Syria, mobilizing additional battalions to the border with Syria and ordering the transfer of two military divisions to the Golan Heights and Syrian front. Amid escalating tensions, Druze protesters in Jaramana, a Damascus suburb with a significant Druze population, initially removed the Syrian national flag but Druze elders later restored it. Meanwhile, more than a thousand Israeli Druze crossed into the Syrian buffer zone to support their counterparts, with Israeli Border Police preparing to bring back those who crossed. Two Israeli Knesset members, Hamad Amar and Afif Abed, also crossed into Syria to persuade Israeli Druze youth to return to Israel. After Syrian forces withdrew from Suwayda, Druze militias took control of the city, raising Druze flags featuring the Star of David over government buildings. The Druze community welcomed Israeli soldiers advancing near Mount Hermon in the Golan Heights. In response to the situation, the Israeli Foreign Minister ordered the transfer of humanitarian aid worth two million shekels, including food parcels, medical equipment, and medicines, to the Druze in Suwayda, coordinated with Washington and Damascus. Reports indicate Israel has already delivered medical aid to Druze communities in Suwayda, with plans for additional assistance.
