A Milan court on 2 July sentenced 20-year-old Daniele Rezza to 27 years in prison for the murder of 31-year-old supermarket worker Manuel Mastrapasqua, who was fatally stabbed in Rozzano on 11 October 2024 during a street robbery over a pair of wireless headphones worth roughly €14. The prosecution had asked for a 20-year term, waiving aggravating circumstances and recognising generic mitigating factors. The court nonetheless imposed a heavier sentence after reviewing video footage and witness statements that showed Rezza approaching the victim with a knife, stealing the headphones and delivering a single lethal blow to the chest when Mastrapasqua tried to resist. During the trial Rezza admitted the attack, expressed remorse and offered to enter a restorative-justice programme. Defence lawyers presented no witnesses, while the prosecutor described the defendant’s upbringing as marked by chronic family violence. The ruling can be appealed.
