Italian rescue teams have retrieved two bodies and are continuing to search for the remaining two occupants of a seven-metre cabin cruiser that vanished during a recreational fishing trip in the Gulf of Taranto on 29 June. The vessel left Taranto’s Molo Santa Lucia early Sunday despite rough seas and failed to return; mobile-phone contact with the crew ceased around 14:00 the same day. The first victim, 73-year-old Claudio Donnaloia, was recovered on 30 June about 14 nautical miles off Bernalda, while a second, still‐unidentified body surfaced on 2 July. Missing are Claudio’s brother Pasquale Donnaloia, 67, boat owner Antonio Dell’Amura, 61, and mechanic Domenico Lanzolla, 60. Operations coordinated by the Capitaneria di Porto in Bari involve naval and air units from the Italian Coast Guard, Guardia di Finanza and Aeronautica Militare, with search grids extending from Taranto to the Calabrian coast. Merchant ships and local boaters have been asked to report any sightings as authorities race against deteriorating weather and the medical needs of one missing man who relatives say is diabetic.
