Rescue teams in northern Italy have found the body of Matthew Hall, the British hiker who vanished on 9 July while trekking alone in the Alps above Chiavenna, Lombardy. Italian police said the 33-year-old from Hull was discovered at about 19:00 local time on Wednesday near the Cross of Daloo, a mountain viewpoint Hall had photographed and sent to friends before he disappeared. Hall had left the B&B Ploncher hotel for what he expected to be an eight-hour hike and later texted a friend that he had "lost the path and stopped to rest." When he failed to return, the hotel raised the alarm and search teams—supported by helicopters because of difficult terrain—scoured the area for more than a week. Officials said Hall’s family have been informed, and the UK Foreign Office is providing consular support. An investigation by Italian authorities will determine the cause of death, but there is no initial indication of foul play.
