Eighty years after the atomic bombing, the search for the remains of victims continues on Ninoshima Island near Hiroshima. Researcher Rebun Kayo from Hiroshima University’s Peace Center regularly visits the island to uncover fragments of remains, underscoring the ongoing reality of the war's aftermath. Meanwhile, in Hiroshima’s Peace Memorial Park, the ossuary of the Atomic Bomb Memorial Tower was opened to the public for the first time in a decade. The ossuary holds the remains of approximately 70,000 atomic bomb victims, including 812 whose names are known but whose families have not yet been identified. The reopening aims to facilitate the return of these remains to their families and serves as a somber reminder of the enduring impact of the bombing.
