Authorities in Mexico have uncovered numerous human remains in multiple locations, raising concerns about clandestine graves and past crematorium mismanagement. In Zapopan, Jalisco, forensic teams and search groups discovered 233 bags containing human remains at the Las Agujas site, with only six individuals fully identified so far. The Jalisco State Prosecutor's Office declared the area cleared, though some search groups remain skeptical due to the site's size. Separately, in Ciudad Juárez, six bodies were returned to families following forensic identification related to the scandal involving the inoperable Plenitud crematorium, which had provided funeral homes with crushed stones and animal ashes instead of human remains. In Mexico City’s Cuauhtémoc borough, presumed human bones and skulls were found during construction work at Paseo de la Reforma 159, near the intersection with Magnolia Street in the Guerrero neighborhood. Mexico City authorities, including the local prosecutor’s office and the Institute of Verification and Administrative Control (INVEA), suspended construction activities and initiated investigations. Officials, including Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum, indicated that these remains likely belong to the 18th-century Santa Paula Cemetery, an old, disused burial ground. The Federal Prosecutor's Office is also involved in the investigation. Additionally, in San Cristóbal de la Barranca, Jalisco, a family of four, including two children, was found executed with gunshot wounds, with a nine-year-old survivor. This incident is under investigation by the Jalisco Prosecutor's Office. These discoveries highlight ongoing challenges in addressing Mexico's unresolved cases of missing persons and clandestine burials.
