The Japan Air Self-Defense Force's aerobatic team, Blue Impulse, performed demonstration flights over the Osaka-Kansai Expo venue on July 12 and 13, 2025. These flights were a rescheduled event after the originally planned performance in April was canceled due to poor weather. The Blue Impulse jets took off from Kansai International Airport around 2:40 p.m. and flew over notable landmarks such as Tsutenkaku Tower, Osaka Castle, and the Tower of the Sun. This marked the first time Blue Impulse flew over Osaka Prefecture since the 1990 International Garden and Greenery Exposition. The Ministry of Defense officially announced the flights following a request from Osaka Prefecture to hold the exhibition during the Expo period. Additionally, the Expo's demonstration flights of "flying cars" resumed in early July after being suspended for about two and a half months due to a parts drop incident in April. The suspension was caused by a component strength issue, which has since been addressed. Test flights of unmanned flying cars were conducted before the planned resumption of manned demonstration flights starting July 12, with six days of scheduled public demonstrations at the Expo venue. These events aim to revitalize visitor interest amid concerns over stagnant attendance and the impact of extreme heat during the Expo's halfway point.
