South Africa's independent news channel eNCA announced the launch of a new current affairs programme called The Brief, which will premiere on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. on DStv channel 403. The show is described as a premium, fast-paced programme combining eNCA's broadcast capabilities with the editorial strength of the Sunday Times. Meanwhile, in East Africa, tensions have arisen within the East African Community (EAC) following Tanzania's recent policy changes. Tanzania imposed restrictions on foreign enterprises and criminalized the engagement of non-citizens in micro-enterprises, a move Kenya argues violates the EAC common market protocol. Tobias Alando, CEO of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), noted that exports from Tanzania to Kenya have doubled between 2014 and 2024, while Kenyan exports to Tanzania have grown by only about $33 million. He also stated that goods traded among Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania are considered transfers rather than exports or imports and should not be subject to duties. Fred Mukasa, a former member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), criticized Tanzania for wanting to benefit from EAC membership without adhering to its obligations, urging Tanzania to align with regional commitments.
