The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has condemned the police for using excessive force, including firing shots, during the re-arrest of youth politician Peter Kinyanjui, also known as Kawanjiru, within the precincts of the Ruiru Law Courts. JSC Secretary Winfridah Mokaya stated that such actions undermine the sanctity and dignity of the courts and described the use of firearms in a court environment as unjustified and a dangerous precedent. The police operation involved anti-terror officers storming the court premises to re-arrest Kawanjiru, who is identified as a youth leader allied with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Separately, protests erupted in Embu Town following the arrest of Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji, who was arraigned at Kahawa Law Courts on allegations of inciting violence and sponsoring unrest during the recent Saba Saba protests. The demonstrations led to paralysis of transport along the Embu–Nairobi highway and entered a second day amid calls for Mukunji's release. Chief Justice Martha Koome urged police to uphold human rights and exercise restraint in managing demonstrations, warning protesters against violence and calling for the prosecution of those causing unrest. She also condemned the destruction of property and referenced that over ten people were killed during the Saba Saba commemorations.
