The 4th edition of the Kenya Meat Expo 2025 took place from August 6 to 8 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi. The event showcased the potential of Kenya's livestock economy, particularly highlighting dryland communities. Key figures such as Dr. Huyam Salih, Director at AU-IBAR, Geoffrey Odundo, Group Managing Director and CEO of Nation Media Group, and Hon. Mutahi Kagwe participated in the opening, emphasizing the meat industry's role in national development. Dr. Richard Kyuma, CEO of National Livestock Development and Promotion Services, noted Kenya's livestock population includes over 22 million cattle and 55 million sheep and goats, while addressing the country's beef deficit and import reliance. The expo attracted over 12,000 attendees and featured discussions on livestock feeds, fodder, and export market initiatives led by Kelvin Nkai of KEPROBA. Northern Kenya farmers' cooperative models were also highlighted as a means to reinvent livestock trade. The event concluded with cultural activities and opportunities for networking among investors, vendors, and meat consumers, aiming to adapt to changing consumer preferences and enhance the sector's economic contribution.
