Kenya's Ministry of Roads and Transport, led by Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir, is advancing several key infrastructure projects and addressing longstanding financial challenges in the road sector. The government allocated KSh 1.785 billion for upgrading the 25km Mombasa Road (Devki) to Kinanie Park/Kinanie Leather Park Road in Machakos County. The dualing of the Rironi–Nakuru and Nakuru–Eldoret highways is planned under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) framework, with multiple concession proponents currently in the development phase. The Mtwapa-Kilifi road project is 64% complete, with works expected to finish by March 2026. The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) employs privately owned vehicles for highway patrols as part of performance-based contracts, particularly on critical roads like Thika Road and the Southern Bypass. The government inherited KSh 175 billion in unpaid road sector bills, which had suspended over 580 road projects nationwide. To address this, the Ministry of Roads has released KSh 65 billion to settle pending contractor payments, enabling the resumption and completion of stalled projects. Additionally, the Shimoni Fishing Port in Kwale County has been completed after three years of construction at a cost of KSh 2.6 billion. The port, with a holding capacity of up to 200,000 kilograms of fish per day, has been officially handed over to the government and is expected to boost Kenya's blue economy sector.
