Kenya is set to co-host the delayed 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) alongside Tanzania and Uganda, with the tournament scheduled from August 2 to August 30, 2025. The opening match and ceremony will take place at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, while the final will be hosted at Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani in Nairobi, Kenya. Additional venues in Kenya include Nyayo Stadium, which will host Group A matches, and other training facilities such as Ulinzi, Police Sacco, and Utalii grounds. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given Kenya the green light to host the event, praising the completion of renovations and security preparations at the stadiums. Kenyan Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya confirmed that the government has invested in infrastructure improvements and paid a hosting fee of 1.6 billion Kenyan shillings to CAF. Security measures have been intensified, including CCTV installations and steward training, to ensure a safe tournament environment. Kenya's national team, Harambee Stars, has been preparing intensively for the tournament under coach Bennie McCarthy, who named a provisional 30-man squad featuring players from clubs such as Police, Gor Mahia, and Bandari FC. The team commenced a residential training camp at Kasarani and participated in preparatory tournaments, including the CECAFA Four Nations Cup in Arusha, Tanzania, although they later withdrew citing substandard facilities. Harambee Stars will open their CHAN campaign against the Democratic Republic of Congo on August 3 at Kasarani Stadium and will also face Angola, Morocco, and Zambia in the group stage. President William Ruto has inspected the renovated Kasarani Stadium and expressed confidence in Kenya's readiness to host the tournament, urging the team and fans to perform well and support the national side. The tournament will be broadcast live on KBC Channel 1 TV. Other participating nations, including Uganda, Tanzania, Burkina Faso, and Zambia, have also named their squads and are preparing for the event. The CHAN tournament is seen as a celebration of local African football talent and a precursor to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will also be hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
