Kenya's Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has confirmed that the general elections will proceed as scheduled in 2027, barring any contrary court orders. IEBC Chair Erastus Ethekon has assured the public that the 2027 elections will be free, fair, and transparent, explicitly denying claims of vote rigging and the existence of ghost polling stations. The commission emphasized its independence and commitment to conducting elections in accordance with the law. In preparation for the upcoming electoral cycle, the IEBC announced it will conduct all 24 by-elections scheduled for this year, including contests for 16 County Assembly seats, six parliamentary seats, and the Baringo Senate seat. The by-elections are set for November 27, with the IEBC having issued guidelines for aspirants and political parties. Additionally, the commission has delisted 334 unrecognized political parties as part of an ongoing strategy to regulate party participation, leaving 2,520 such parties registered. The IEBC has also been given seven days to respond to a legal case concerning the dismissal of members of parliament.
