Walt Disney Co.’s Lucasfilm unit has reached an undisclosed settlement with actress Gina Carano, ending the federal lawsuit she filed last year alleging wrongful termination and sex discrimination after her dismissal from the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian.” Lucasfilm said in a statement that Carano "was always well respected" on set and that it "looks forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future." Carano, a former mixed-martial-arts fighter who portrayed rebel soldier Cara Dune, was removed from the hit “Star Wars” spinoff in February 2021 after company executives called her social-media posts "abhorrent and unacceptable" for denigrating people on the basis of cultural and religious identity. In December 2024 she sued Disney and Lucasfilm, claiming they violated California and federal civil-rights laws by punishing her for conservative political views while ignoring comparable comments from male colleagues. Her complaint, which sought at least $75,000 in punitive damages, was financed by billionaire Elon Musk under an initiative to support users of his social-media platform X who say they were penalized for their online speech. Neither side disclosed financial terms or whether Carano will return to the “Star Wars” franchise. In a post on X, the actress called the agreement "the best outcome for all parties" and thanked Musk "for backing my case and asking for nothing in return."
